Valve Drops Steam Machine Pricing

And it's overpriced for the specs they are offering.

After first showing off the new Steam Machine last November, Valve has finally dropped the pricing details for its mini gaming PC.

The system is launching in four different configurations, starting at a rather steep USD1,049 (~RM4,336) for the entry-level 512GB model with no Steam Controller and climbing all the way to USD1,428 (~RM5,903) if you want the top-tier 2TB bundle that includes a Steam Controller.

Getting your hands on one is not going to be a walk in the park, though. Valve is putting up some strict guardrails to stop bots, meaning you will need a Steam account in good standing with a purchase history dating back before 27 April 2026. On top of that, they are limiting orders to just one signup per household.

For local gamers, it is the usual disappointing story. Neither Valve nor any official resellers are bringing the Steam Machine to Malaysia. If you are desperate to get your hands on one over here, you will just have to brace yourself for eye-watering scalper prices.

Under the case, the mini PC is packing a semi-customised AMD Zen 4 CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads, paired with a semi-customised RDNA 3 GPU featuring 28 compute units and a 2.45 GHz max sustained clock. You also get 8GB of GDDR6 video memory alongside 16GB of DDR5 system RAM and it runs SteamOS.

In terms of real-world performance, the folks over at Digital Foundry reckon it lands somewhere between a Radeon RX 6600 and an RX 7600 depending on the game. Honestly, when you convert that entry price to around RM4,400, you could easily build a much more powerful rig for the same amount of money.

Rounding out the package, the connectivity options are pretty standard for a modern living-room machine. It features Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Gigabit Ethernet, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, a single USB-C port, and four USB-A ports to plug in all your extra gear.
