WhatsApp Developing New Feature To Reduce Spam Messages

This feature enables users to create a username PIN, preventing individuals who haven't previously interacted with you from messaging you simply by knowing your username.

The giant internet messaging platform is currently working on a feature that allows users to create a username for their account.

Although this feature is still work-in-progress, WhatsApp has added a new security layer to this username feature.

WABetaInfo reports that once users created a username, they have the option to create a username PIN. This ensures that individuals who have not previously interacted with them cannot send messages simply by knowing their username.

To reduce unwanted messages, others will be required to enter your PIN to contact you via your username initially. After setting the PIN, you must share it with individuals you wish to connect with.

It’s important to note that the PIN is not necessary for people who have already started chatting with you. This optional feature is intended to enhance your control over incoming messages, allowing only selected individuals to contact you through your username at first.

It’s unknown when WhatsApp is planning to release the username feature or the PIN support. It could be this year or it could be the next. I will be keeping my eyes open.
