WhatsApp just rolled out a new feature called “Advanced Chat Privacy” to give you more control over your chats when you want to keep things extra private.
This setting works in both individual chats and groups. When you turn it on, it stops people from exporting chats, automatically saving media to their phone, or using messages for AI stuff. But WhatsApp didn’t mention whether it blocks screenshots—so that might still be possible.

WhatsApp says this feature will be super useful in groups where you might not know everyone super well, but the conversations are still sensitive—like health support groups or community organising chats.
This new setting is coming to everyone using the latest version of WhatsApp. To enable it, just tap the chat name, then hit “Advanced Chat Privacy.” WhatsApp also mentioned this is just the first version, and they’ll add even more privacy options down the line.
