Xiaomi has just unveiled its first passport-style foldable smartphone, beating Apple’s rumoured iPhone Ultra to the punch and taking the fight directly to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8.
Under the screen, the Xiaomi 18 Fold packs Xiaomi’s own custom-built Xring O3 chip, paired with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM alongside 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. If you opt for the 16GB model, you will get the faster LPDDR6 memory, while the lower tier uses LPDDR5X.
The inner folding screen measures 7.58 inches with a 2364×1672 resolution, while the cover display comes in at 5.38 inches with a 1168×1712 resolution. Both panels feature smooth 120Hz refresh rates, a 2:1 aspect ratio, and a searing peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits. Xiaomi has also wrapped the outer screen in its own Shield Glass 3.0 for extra durability.
Camera tech gets a serious upgrade here, led by a 200MP main snapper using a Samsung ISOCELL HP5 sensor. That is backed up by a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 3.5x optical zoom and a 7x in-sensor zoom, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a pair of 16MP selfie shooters on each display.
Keeping everything running is a 6,000 mAh battery with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. The phone runs on HyperOS 4 built on top of Android 17, and includes side-mounted fingerprint scanning on the power button along with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers.
Design-wise, it comes in black, red, Warm Gold, and a premium ceramic special edition. It is surprisingly slim too, measuring 10.68mm thick when folded and just 5.02mm unfolded, with a total weight of 219g.
Pricing starts at CNY10,999 (~RM6,628) for the base 12GB and 256GB model, rising to CNY15,999 (~RM9,641) for the top-end ceramic edition loaded with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
Unfortunately for global foldable fans, Xiaomi currently has no plans to launch the 18 Fold outside of China, meaning third-party importers are your only bet if you want to grab one.
