Google Pixel 9a Officially Launched: Affordable Pixel At A Starting Price Of RM2,699

It will only be available in Malaysia next month.

Google just dropped the Pixel 9a, the budget-friendly star of the Pixel 9 lineup.

The Pixel 9a rocks the same sleek look as its pricier siblings. Up front, you’ve got a flat Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen that flows into a flat aluminium frame.

Flip it over, and there’s a smooth polycarbonate back—no camera bump here, which sets it apart from the rest of the Pixel 9 crew. It comes in four colours: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony.

The phone packs a 6.3-inch pOLED display with a sharp 2424×1080 resolution and a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It gets crazy bright too, hitting 1,800 nits for HDR content and peaking at 2,700 nits.

Plus, there’s an optical fingerprint reader built into the screen, and the whole thing is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is powered by Google’s new Tensor G4 chip, paired with the Titan M2 security coprocessor. It comes with 8GB of RAM and your choice of 128GB or 256GB storage.

Unfortunately, it comes with the older Exynos 5300 modem instead of the newer 5400 modem found on the pricier Pixel 9 series.

For cameras, you’re looking at a 48MP main shooter with Quad PD Dual Pixel AF and OIS, plus a 13MP ultrawide lens. It can shoot 4K video at 60fps, and the 13MP front camera handles 4K at 30fps.

Battery life is solid, with a 5,100mAh Li-Ion battery that Google says can last over 30 hours. It supports 23W wired charging and Qi wireless charging too.

Out of the box, the Pixel 9a runs Android 15, loaded with all of Google’s latest AI tricks. And like other Pixels, it’s promised seven years of OS and security updates.

Pricing and Availability

The Pixel 9a is hitting Malaysia with a price of RM2,699 for the 128GB model. As for the 256GB version, Google’s keeping that price under wraps for now—stay tuned for updates.

Google hasn’t spilled the exact release date for Malaysia yet, but they did tell SoyaCincau that the Pixel 9a should be up for grabs sometime in April. You’ll be able to snag it from the Google Store and other retail partners. Mark your calendars!
