U Mobile just dropped its next-gen 5G brand, ULTRA5G, with a launch event today at its Berjaya Times Square (BTS) headquarters. The telco claims BTS is now Malaysia’s first fully 5G-enabled shopping mall, showing U Mobile’s push to bring the widest and most reliable 5G coverage nationwide.
So, what’s ULTRA5G all about? Think ultra-fast speeds, solid connectivity, and broad network coverage, all backed by enterprise-grade tech. If you’re a U Mobile customer at BTS, you’ll now see the ULTRA5G tag on your phone, thanks to their advanced In-Building Coverage (IBC) system. This is a big step in making sure 5G works just as well indoors as it does outside.
To prove ULTRA5G’s power, U Mobile pulled off Malaysia’s first uninterrupted 4K livestream from inside BTS’s indoor theme park—specifically, from an 800-meter-long roller coaster (the longest multi-inverted coaster in the Asia Pacific, by the way). Even as the ride hit speeds of 70 km/h, the stream stayed smooth and stable for the full two-and-a-half-minute ride.
They also demoed mixed-reality experiences and 5G network slicing, showing off how ULTRA5G can handle different services without breaking a sweat.
Beyond BTS, U Mobile has already extended 5G coverage across the entire Penang Bridge 1 using just two towers, ensuring seamless connectivity for daily commuters.
This launch kicks off U Mobile’s nationwide 5G expansion, with a goal of hitting 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026. They’ll be rolling out updates on ULTRA5G availability, targeting key spots like airports, hospitals, and convention centres—both indoors and out.
It’s all part of U Mobile’s mission to deliver Malaysia’s most extensive and reliable 5G network. Stay tuned for more updates as the rollout continues.
