Volvo Car Malaysia has officially pulled the wraps off the ES90, and it is a significant milestone for the brand as its first fully electric sedan to be locally assembled right here in Malaysia.
It shares the same SPA2 platform as the EX90, which gives it a bit of a unique stance with an SUV-like ride height and ground clearance that you do not usually see on a traditional sedan.
For the Malaysian market, we are getting the rear-wheel-drive version powered by a single motor. It produces a respectable 333hp and 480Nm of torque, allowing the car to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically capped at 180km/h, which is more than enough for our local roads and highways.
The EV sedan features a 92kWh pack with 88kWh of usable capacity, providing a solid WLTP-rated range of 651km. This is also the first Volvo EV in the country to utilise an 800V architecture, meaning it can handle ultra-fast DC charging speeds. If you find a 350kW charger, you can top up from 10 to 80% in just 22 minutes, and a quick ten-minute charge can add up to 300km of range.
Stepping inside, the cabin is dominated by a 14.5-inch central infotainment display with Google built-in, complemented by a 9-inch digital cluster for the driver. As the new flagship, it is the most powerful Volvo ever in terms of computing, thanks to a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin configuration. It also sounds incredible on paper, featuring a massive 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system pushing 1,610W with Dolby Atmos support.
On the safety front, it is exactly what you would expect from the Swedish manufacturer. It boasts a reinforced safety cage and a massive suite of sensors, including five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, though it does omit LiDAR for this specific model.

If you are looking to get behind the wheel, the Volvo ES90 Single Motor Extended Range is priced at RM339,888 on-the-road without insurance. There is a 2% rebate for early bird buyers, while fleet customers can enjoy a larger 8% discount.
