1000X The ColleXion Is Sony’s New Luxury Wireless Headphones, And They Cost RM2,799

They are almost similar to the WH-1000XM6 but with a better build quality.

Sony just released a new premium wireless headphones that sits above the WH-1000XM lineup, and they called it “1000X The ColleXion” or also known as WH-1000XX.

For this flagship pair, Sony opted for a synthetic leather build around the ear cup housing, pairing it with deeper, wider ear pads and a larger headband to maximize comfort during long listening sessions.

The sides feature sleek stainless steel yokes that extend right across the top of the headband.

On the downside, if you like tossing your headphones into a small bag, you might be disappointed to hear they no longer fold down. Just like the older WH-1000XM5, they only swivel inwards, though Sony is bundling them with a new carrying case that features an integrated grip handle.

Over on the left ear cup, you will find three physical buttons, where the usual power and ANC/ambient mode controls are now joined by a dedicated spatial mode switch.

On the audio tech front, Sony is introducing 360 Upmix support, which gives you spatial audio profiles tailored specifically for music, cinema, and gaming. You also get native DSEE Ultimate audio upscaling, which uses AI to try and salvage lost sound frequencies. While The ColleXion uses the same 30mm driver size as the XM6, Sony has gone with soft-edge drivers this time around, which they claim will deliver punchier bass and cleaner noise cancelling.

They have also optimised the internal circuit board layout to fit a thicker copper substrate, aiming for richer detail, a wider soundstage, and a lot more depth. To top it off, Sony actually co-tuned these with mastering engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering.

When it comes to blocking out the world, the headphones pack 12 microphones split across both sides, offering adaptive ANC and beamforming tech for crystal-clear voice calls. They are powered by the same QN3 Noise Canceling Processor found in the XM6s, but they get a boost from a new V3 integrated processor, which Sony says will step up both the ANC performance and general sound processing.

The extra processing power seems to take a bit of a toll on the battery, though. The ColleXion is rated for up to 24 hours of playback with ANC switched on, and up to 32 hours with it turned off. That is a noticeable step down from the WH-1000XM6, which manages 30 hours with ANC and 40 hours without it.

Pricing and Availability

If you are looking to pick up a pair in Malaysia, the WH-1000XX is already available for purchase and they will cost you RM2,799 and comes in either Platinum or Black colourways. That puts it at a serious premium compared to the WH-1000XM6, which retails for a much lower RM2,099.
