U Mobile has officially cut ties with Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) wholesale agreement and moved all its customers over to its very own standalone, nationwide ULTRA5G network.
The telco had been using the DNB setup as a temporary fix to keep everyone connected while it raced to build its own independent infrastructure.
Since kicking off its solo 5G rollout in July 2025, U Mobile has been moving at breakneck speed, smashing targets to cover more than 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA), according to the company’s press release.
In fact, they built the network so far ahead of schedule that they even bagged a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for the fastest 5G network rollout in the country.
If you are wondering about performance, independent tech analytics firms like Ookla and Opensignal have already given the new network their stamp of approval.
To keep this momentum going and fund the long-term optimisation of its next-gen tech, U Mobile has secured a massive RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing from a mix of major local and international banks.
Now that the telco has full operational control over its network architecture, expect to see a whole new lineup of specialised services dropping for both everyday consumers and businesses soon.
