When Tesla officially introduced its electric vehicles (EV) to the Malaysian market in July 2023, one of the most enticing perks for early adopters was the complimentary nationwide charging network.
However, after nearly three years of free access, that honeymoon period has officially come to an end for Tesla owners across the country.
As reported by local automotive portal Paultan, Tesla has begun monetising its Destination Chargers throughout Malaysia. The Tesla mobile app now reflects a standard rate of RM0.88 per kWh at these alternating current charge points.
Despite the loss of the free charging, Tesla’s pricing remains notably competitive within the local EV ecosystem. For context, rival public AC charging networks in Malaysia typically charge between RM0.90 and RM1.15 per kWh, meaning Tesla drivers are still getting a slightly better deal than the wider market standard.
As of May 2026, Tesla has 17 Destination Charger stations throughout Malaysia with 73 stalls.
