U Mobile has hit 90% coverage of populated areas across Malaysia nine months earlier than planned.
The nationwide rollout kicked off back in July 2025, and by March this year, the telco had already hit 80% coverage, well ahead of its original timeline, according to U Mobile’s press release.
That speed hasn’t gone unnoticed, either. The achievement earned U Mobile a spot in the Malaysian Book of Records for the fastest 5G network rollout to reach 90% coverage in populated areas by the end of September 2026.
Reflecting on the milestone, U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck noted that reaching the target so early comes down to the team’s determination alongside strong support from government, regulatory, tech, and infrastructure partners. He pointed out that the company promised to build out nationwide 5G rapidly at scale, and this milestone proves they delivered.
Wong added that hitting the target isn’t just about ticking a box. It is about bringing reliable digital connectivity to more Malaysians, improving how communities work, learn, and stay connected. With the basic infrastructure ready to go, U Mobile is now shifting its focus toward refining their ULTRA5G experience and helping businesses and public services get real value out of the network.
