Apple May Ditch 60Hz: iPhone 17 & 17 Air Could Get 120Hz Screens

But there's a catch.

Looks like the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are finally getting 120Hz refresh rate displays, but there’s a bit of a twist.

They won’t have the same advanced display tech as the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The Pro models use what Apple calls “ProMotion,” which can adjust dynamically from 1Hz all the way up to 120Hz.

This is thanks to their LTPO screens, which can dial down the refresh rate to save battery when you don’t need the extra smoothness.

On the other hand, the regular iPhone 17 and 17 Air will stick with LTPS displays. These can only switch between fixed refresh rates like 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz—no in-between adjustments.

Still, if this rumour pans out, it’s a welcome change. Finally, Apple seems to be moving on from the outdated 60Hz displays, which is long overdue.
