Apple has halted the release of the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models, rendering the new software unavailable for download and installation at present.
The withdrawal of the update follows reports from some iPad Pro owners who experienced device bricking post-update, according to MacRumors.
Reddit hosts several accounts from iPad Pro users who encountered disruptions during the installation process, resulting in iPads that would not power on.
One user recounted successfully updating their iPad Pro to iPadOS 17, but encountered issues when installing iPadOS 18; the device shut down and could not be restarted despite multiple attempts. The device was subsequently confirmed as bricked by an Apple Store.
While not all M4 iPad Pro owners have reported installation issues, there seems to be a correlation with the installation of the new iOS 17.7 update prior to iOS 18, the report says.
Apple told MacRumors that they “have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices.”
