Asus Unveils ROG Xbox Ally X20 With 120Hz OLED Display And Bundled AR Glasses

This is part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) sub-brand.

Asus is celebrating twenty years of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) sub-brand, and they are marking the occasion with a flashy special edition of their handheld gaming PC.

Called the ROG Xbox Ally X20, this new version packs the same internal hardware as last year’s model but steps things up with a 7.4-inch 1080p Nebula OLED screen. This new panel boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness, and AMD Freesync Premium Pro. To top it off, Asus is bundling it with a pair of ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses.

That new Nebula HDR OLED display is a serious upgrade, featuring a 0.2ms response time, a VESA DisplayHDR 1000 rating, and full Dolby Vision support. It is topped with anti-reflective Corning DXC glass, which should make games and videos look brilliant even in tricky lighting. Because OLED panel does not love heat, Asus has also redesigned the internal airflow channels to keep the display temperatures as low as possible during intense gaming sessions.

On the control side of things, the handheld features new TMR joystick technology that Asus claims will improve precision, tracking, and overall durability. You also get a Transforming D-Pad with eight-way control and redesigned face buttons that sit flush against the chassis, making it much easier to slide your thumb across them. Around the back, the handgrips now have a rubberised coating to give you a bit of extra comfort and a more secure hold.

Under the hood, the performance should match the solid standards of the standard Ally X. It is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, backed up by 24GB of speedy LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, so it will have no trouble handling modern games.

As for those bundled AR glasses, they sport a matching black and gold colourway to match the handheld. They use micro-OLED tech to project a massive virtual 171-inch screen at a distance of four metres, running at a super smooth 240Hz refresh rate with a near-instant 0.01ms response time. They feature native 3DoF head tracking and plug straight into the Ally using a single USB-C cable.

Asus has not shared any details on pricing or a release date just yet, but you can safely assume this premium bundle is going to cost an absolute fortune.
