Huawei Malaysia has just dropped two new smartwatches on the local market, the Watch Fit 5 and the Watch Fit 5 Pro.
If you go for the Pro, you are getting a slightly larger 1.92-inch AMOLED touchscreen protected by tough sapphire glass, plus a crazy bright 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The standard Fit 5 holds its own with a 1.82-inch AMOLED display hitting 2,500 nits. Both models keep the handy Always-On Display (AOD) functionality and feature a digital crown alongside a shortcut button on the right side of the casing.
While both wearables feature aluminium midframes, the Pro steps things up with a premium titanium bezel. Huawei has upgraded the health tracking across the board with new 6 LED and 6 PPG optical heart rate modules and temperature sensors, but the Pro model exclusive features include ECG and depth sensing. You can happily take either swimming thanks to their 5 ATM water resistance, but only the Pro is certified for proper freediving down to 40 metres.
Battery life is pretty solid, with Huawei promising a full week of juice under normal use, stretching up to 10 days if you go easy on it. Keeping the AOD active will drop that down to about 4 days, and you will charge them back up using a proprietary magnetic puck.
Software-wise, there is a new Mini-workout mode that tracks your movement across 10 key points on your body, a dedicated sports section with specialised apps, and advanced cycling and running metrics that track everything from calories to endurance. Golfers will also appreciate the inclusion of over 17,000 maps complete with real-time scoring and green views.
Pricing and Availability
If you are looking to buy, the standard Watch Fit 5 comes in purple, green, white, black, and silver, whilst the Pro keeps it sleek in black, white, and orange.
Price-wise, the Watch Fit 5 Pro retails for RM1,099, but preordering it bags you RM585 worth of free gifts and an RM100 rebate, dropping the price to RM999 for a limited time.
The standard Watch Fit 5 is priced at RM799, but a preorder discount slashes that to RM649, alongside freebies valued at RM578.
