Young Malaysians between 18 and 30 are about to get a free upgrade to their tech skillset.
The Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government is rolling out three months of free access to top-tier artificial intelligence (AI) software for anyone in that age group who completes AI courses on the official Rakyat Digital platform.
It is all part of the AI Untuk Rakyat programme, which aims to boost tech literacy and get the younger generation hands-on with cutting-edge tools.
The Ministry of Digital is designing the course modules, which will cover everything from AI safety and cybersecurity to agentic AI, generative AI, and cloud computing. The catch is pretty simple: you have to actually finish the training to claim your three months of premium AI subscriptions.
The idea is to make sure participants genuinely pick up the skills rather than just signing up for the free perks. But they did not say what AI software they will be providing free access to. I guess it could be Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, or Anthropic Claude.
The initiative is scheduled to kick off on Merdeka Day, 31 August, and the goal is to reach around 100,000 young people. The government wants to make sure no one gets left behind as Malaysia ramps up its focus on artificial intelligence, making public awareness and practical tech skills a top priority across the country.
