U Mobile Officially Crowned Malaysia’s Fastest 5G Network In 2025 By Ookla

This is based on the real-world user tests conducted in the second half of 2025 by Ookla.

U Mobile just scooped up a big achievement, being officially crowned Malaysia’s fastest 5G network in Q3 and Q4 2025 by Ookla.

This isn’t just marketing fluff either; the ranking comes from actual user tests conducted throughout the tail end of 2025 by Ookla. By looking at everything from download and upload speeds to how the network handles latency under pressure, the mobile and broadband network research company determined that U Mobile is currently leading the pack across the nation, according to U Mobile’s press release.

The company’s CTO, Woon Ooi Yuen, mentioned that they are going to keep pouring investment into their infrastructure to ensure that Ultra 5G experience stays top-tier. Beyond just making sure your videos buffer faster, they are also aiming to be a major player in Malaysia’s digital transformation, aligning their goals with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan to help modernise the country’s tech landscape.

On the technical side, they aren’t slowing down. They are actually ahead of schedule with their rollout, aiming to hit 80% coverage in populated areas by the second half of 2026. To pull this off, they are leaning heavily on 5G-advanced tech, utilising massive antenna arrays with 64 transmitters and receivers. This setup is specifically designed to handle high capacity while keeping that low-latency performance consistent, even when the network is busy.

Ookla’s own CEO, Stephen Bye, weighed in to say the award is a testament to the serious investment U Mobile has put into their connectivity. It is an objective win based on rigorous testing, so it carries some real weight in the industry.

Huawei has also been a key partner in this journey, with their Deputy CEO in Malaysia, Zac Chow, highlighting how they have collaborated on 5G-advanced and AI solutions to keep the innovation ecosystem growing.
